São Tomé and Príncipe – May 2018

This is one of those rare gems, one that you would be forgiven for having to google to find its location!!! This is not a commercial destination, rather the undiscovered “Galapagos of Africa” – a volcanic wonderland replete with rare endemics. Tropical forests spill onto secluded beaches framed by turquoise oceans in a place that “time forgot”, a place that is quiet, where people still walk and live the slow life.

WHY WE LOVE SAO TOME AND PRINCIPE

Magnificent lost world offering fantastic beaches and jungle exploration

Hikes in the Principe Biosphere with volcanic spires and tropical rainforest

Excellent birding with an impressive number of endemics

Turtle nesting grounds

Distinctively West African with a strong Portuguese influence – totally different from East and Southern Africa

Historical plantations

The perfect beach destination after trekking for Lowland Gorillas in nearby Odzala

If you’re thinking about a trip to this idyllic island please pop us a mail – we would love to help you to plan your dream São Tomé and Príncipe holiday.

FEATURED LODGES

PRAIA SUNDY

A stunning tented villa lodge on the very edge of the ocean, surrounded by tropical rainforest. With weathered wood panelling and timber decks, the distinctive villas echo the style of the fishermen’s huts that once stood at this spot.

ROCA SUNDY

The essence of Príncipe can be discovered at Roça. The farm is a celebration of the life, people and history of Príncipe. It is the perfect location from which to explore the island and the UNESCO declared Biosphere Reserve where you can climb volcanic mountains and discover rare endemics of the island.
